The Salisbury Hotel has long been a favourite of the local community.
Located in the old Brisbane industrial suburb with its wartime factories and tiny timber workers cottages adjoining Toohey Forest, Salisbury is becoming Brisbane’s newest secret cool spot.
The Salisbury Hotel was originally constructed in 1848 and initially named The New Road Inn and located at 52 Commercial Road.
The establishment was renamed The Salisbury Hotel and featured a two-storey structure with a large Assembly Room, which later became a single-storey building.
The hotel has an interesting history that reflects the area’s development over the years. In 1942, during World War II, the site underwent significant changes. A series of engine testing structures were built where the Salisbury Hotel and the Mazda car plant now stand. These buildings were used to test aircraft engines that had been assembled at Archerfield Airport.
The hotel was known in the 1970s as a popular music venue in Brisbane’s vibrant pub scene.
Today, the Salisbury Hotel continues to serve the community, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with a new sports bar and a spacious beer garden.
The hotel fully re-opened in 2022 after an extensive renovation that has added a new open Beer Garden, a refreshed Sports Bar for the changing local community as well as refurbished accommodation rooms, both internally and externally.
Salisbury Hotel’s new look local appeals to people of all ages and the new beer garden is the perfect destination to celebrate Queensland’s great weather all-year-round.
Queensland’s year-round great weather will ensure the popularity of the new beer garden which caters to 108 people with two sections, one flowing from the bistro and the other from the sports bar.
